Another Amazing Saturday…

We just canceled the event for tomorrow because of a sudden change in Weather. I shouldn’t have said anything about mom Nature going on Tinder.

Ahead! This means that we're now OFF for Saturday, June 10th. We're again in our regular lots, which is a safe assumption most Saturdays. It's as predictable as someone weed-eating their own foot.

I always imagine every emergency room full on a Saturday morning from garden tool incidents while we're full at E@RTC. By late afternoon on nice days, the emergency room hears, "Then suddenly he said, 'Watch this…' and here we are…" June is always brand new nail gun season. I imagine the emergency room sews stuff up on nice days, and extracts things on rainy days.

I want to toot our horn on behalf of the fabulous Parking Thugs who make our events so unique and special. This is the longest continuous run of nice weather we've ever had this early in the season. This means every weekend without a break for those guys. Perhaps Mother Nature got lucky. Maybe she's finally on Tinder. She was watering a lot the last few years. Maybe she finally watched Ted Lasso. Either way, the streak of nice weather means few breaks for the volunteers, so a special thanks to them.

Without this amazing group of dedicated people, there would be no E@RTC. As we've grown each season, the level of sophistication required to keep it all working smoothly has also increased. We're all doing more behind the scenes to keep it going, and they have become real experts at all the little details. The chatter between Thugs is always interesting and not for the squeamish. We could always use more volunteers; it's a way to make new friends and run up that therapy bill! Actually, they are wonderful humans with all the camaraderie of a good night shift.

These volunteers don't just work the hours during the show, there are a lot of other duties as well. Just charging up all the radios and managing their care every week takes time. Then there are people managing shirts and jackets, someone to manage the schedule, people screening emails, people coordinating with Redmond Town Center, Instagram, and other social media, photos to shoot, special cars to coordinate, new volunteers to screen and train, coordinating with local government, and so many other little things. This is all completed through their own generosity, so let them know you appreciate their work. They are the ones who make this all happen, and I'm lucky just to play a small part.

Sure, we're always going to get that occasional human carcinogen who shows up making demands in an attempt to make it all about them. We're always going to get a window licker here or there who expects something from everyone else and behaves badly, but we're good at dealing with it. Be sympathetic, after all, no normal human was ever conceived in the back seat of a Vega. Or a Prius. Meanwhile, we're focused on having fun, which is why we do it, so come out and join the fun! Leave gramps old lawn darts in the garage so you live another day.

Don't forget that next week, on the 17th, is Paccar coming to join us with the two 100-year anniversary trucks! See you Saturday!
